Supernatural: origins

This si the 2nd Supernatural graphic novel that I read and loved it the same the 1st one (Rising son). The story is aboutr what happened to the Winchester family right after Mary's death and how papa Winchester became a demons hunter. The art could have benn great too if not for 2 things: the drawing looked like they were made for a B&W book rather then a colered one. And the coloring is weired and has a look of an old and faded comics book. I'm looking forward for the 3rd that the release of it's issues will start in Feb. 2010.

Buck Rogers #1-6 - Future shock

I didn't read any Buck Rogers stories before Aynamite announced the Buck Rodgers new series and only knew the basic story i.e. that Buck Rogers is an Anerican somehow ending in the 25th century. I deceided to pick up this series to finally find out what all the hooha is about and wasn't disappointed. The 1st story arc is good and explains how Buck ended up 500 years in the future nad why the future is the way it is. Loved the idea of the almighty pack revealed as rats inside big robotic aromour. The art is good. I'm waiting expectantly to read the 2nd story arc and hopefully in it Buck will realise that Willma is his great gtreat great grand daughter before it's too late.

Doctor Who: The widow's curse

I don't read magazines like the Doctor Who magazine and wasn't aware of the great Doctor Who comic strips published in them. I was very surprised to find this collection in my local comics shop, bought it although it's a bit pricey ($32) and wasn't disappointed. The stories are just great, whether it's a 8 pages story or a 4 parter. Most of the art is good too. All the stories are of teh 10th Doctor with Marth Jones and later with Donna Noble. Some of them are continuations of TV eppisodes like the one about the Sycorex females looking for their missing hubbies, who were killed in the Christmas eppisode that intorduced the 10th Doctor.

This collection is volume 2 of the 10th Doctor strips. I've already orsered volume 1 and lookign forward to volume 3 that is supposed to be released in the upcoming summer.

Angel news from IDW

In March, IDW willl be doing an ANGEL SPECIAL dedicated to Andy Hallett's character, LORNE. John Byrne, is going to tell the tale and illustrate it, too. It'll be a 48-page book with a full-length story.

Looking forward to IDW's March solicitations :)

Dynamite Acquires Dabel Brothers Titles

Dynamite Entertainment has announced that they have acquired the titles published by Dabel Brothers Productions and will begin to publish and distribute those books under the Dynamite banner beginning in 2010. When asked how current series would continue in terms of relaunching with new #1s or continuing with their current numbering , Barrucci explained, "There's no cookie-cutter answer. We're basically rolling up our sleeves and will determine what is in the best interest of each title. The first book will appear in April." As for the titles he's most excited to bring under the Dynamite banner, the publisher said, "Everything from Patricia Briggs to Dean Koontz to Jim Butcher – everything's exciting in this catalogue! We want to help these talented authors expand their audience to the comic fans who want them on a regular basis."

Crossing fingers that Dynamite will continue the Dresden Files comics and that it won't take them ages to do that like it's taking them with the Stargate comics.

DC "earth 1" series

DC Comics has announced Superman: Earth One and Batman: Earth One, two graphic novels spotlighting the heroes' first years and earliest moments, retold in a standalone, original graphic novel format, on a new earth with a new continuity. Superman: Earth One will be written by J. Michael Stracyznski, with art by Shane Davis. Batman: Earth One will be written by Geoff Johns, with art by Gary Frank. The pair are part of a series of Earth One OGNs

I may consider getting into this after the books will arrive to CNV and I'll get a chance to check them.

Terminator news from Dark Horse

A six-issue story beginning in March with art by Andy McDonald, the Terminator mini-series will tie into the first Terminator movie, focusing on Kyle Reese, the man from the future who comes back in time to protect Sarah Connor.

I do recall reading a long while back, something about Dark Horse doing a Terminator comics. I hope that it will develop to more then 1 mini series.

Witchblade vol.2

There are 2 reasons why I liked this book better then vol.1:
1. The pages stayed glued to the cover
2. It's 99% monsters free :)
The stories can be seprated into 2 groups. 4 one shots a one 3 parter. Fugative - the 3 parts story is good but I had a problem with the art. with 2 red heads drawed almost identically it was to realize at 1 st glance who is who, when the other red haed had he glasses off and the witchblade wasn't evident on Sara's hand.
2 of the one shots were also good. But there were 2 one shots that felt like half stories. I would love yto know how Sara dealt with the ghosts who murdered young women, and who murdered the little black girl.
Getting Witchblade in TP format is much ckeaper then seperate issues as ling as the TPs stayed glued :)

Supernatural: Rising son

This is the 1st Supernatural comics I read. I don't really know why I decided to buy it in the 1st place, but I'm glad that I did because I enjoyed reading it, and am looking forward to getting the 1st book "Origins" and new book "Beginnings end". I prefer to get the Marvel and DC comics in TP format instead of separate issues because it's cheaper and doesn't have the annoying commercial every other page.
The story is a chapter in Dean & Sam's childhood, when their father John Winchester learned that the demons see Sam as some kind of a demon messaiah. Itr adds lots of insight to things happening in the TV series.

Star Trek: Spock - reflections

This book is supposed to be a spin-off of the new movie. But I didn't find anything to connect it to the movie. Spock living on Romolus teaching young Romulans about Surak is a known fact at least in the Star Trek novels' expanding universe.

Another inconsistency is the Jim Kirk's fate. While in this book Kirk stayed dead after the 5th movie, there are Star Trek books in which Kirk is alive like the books "written" by William Shatner.

Other then that I loved the concept of Spock remembering eppisodes from his past during a long voyager to earth. I wouldn't mind reading more comics using this concept.

Star Trek omnibus vol.2: Early voyages

Unlike the 1st Star Trek omnibus, this time IDW took the time to enhance the old Marvel comics and result is great. Even the coloring doesn't look like Marvel 90s shoddy coloring.
Loved the Pike era stories. I don't unterstand why Marvel ended the run in mid story. I hope that IDW will contact writer Dan Abent who is now writing Doctor Who novels and get him to pick up where he left at the end of issue #17.

Star Trek TNG: Ghosts news

Star Trek: The Next Generation: Ghosts, is a five-issue miniseries written by Zander Cannon with art by Javier Aranda.

The series starts out as a routine rescue mission above a planet on which there are two feuding nations, one of which is a Federation ally. After rescuing the lone survivor of the disaster, the crew of the Enterprise finds that he seems to be haunted by phantoms, one of which he says is Captain Picard. While they unravel that mystery, the tensions heat up between the two nations, and the crew has to investigate claims of espionage, kidnapping, and murder while keeping themselves out of harm's way.

The story sounds good. What is even better is the fact that it looks like a 5 issues story and not 5 stand alone stories. Havem't read anything by this writer and I hope that he isn't another Tichman. Already pre-ordered the series.

Anita Blake: First death

A nice little story. In Guilty Pleasures there was mention of a past encounter btween Anita and Edward when the last burned a house with vampires and human servants in it. First Death tells that story. As in GP it's basically a detective story with vampire trimmings. Loved it/ The art is also good. Better then in GP.
