Eureka: Dormant gene

I love the Eureka comics. each (of the only 2 so far) mini series is like an eppisode of the show. Although this time the story is idiotic. But an idiotic story is better then no Eureka at all. I'm still waiting for season 3 to be aired in my neck of the woods. I really hope that there will be more Eureka comic. So far no sign of it in Boom!'s solicitations :( The art is OK. It reminded me of the Buffy: season 8 art esp. where the giant girl is involved.

Anita Blake: Guilty pleasures

As I posted before, the Anita Blake comics/books were not on my reading list. Then came this month comics con, the HCs were in the bargain bin and I discovered the world of Anita Blake.
I like Guilty pleasuers a lot. The Anita Blake universe isn't complicated and there were no monsters unlike Angel: After the fall comics. Personally I prefer monster free comics and I'm glad that so far the Anita Blake world is exactly like that.
The story is interesting. Behind the vampires trimmings it's a simple detective story and I love detective stories. Untill the end I didn't guess that the dead animator is the vampires killer. The art is another story. For some reason the artist is limited when it comes to drawing faces and hairdos and sometimes it's hard to remember who is who cos they look alike a lot. But I'm looking forward to reading the Anita Blake: First death HC which I also own.

Angel: Not fade away

Someone asked on another blog "Who needs a comic for a TV episode?". Well I do. 1st of all I usually don't own the DVDs, can't use torrents for security reasons, and have watched the adopted eppisode years ago. So it's nice to be reminded of good episodes without having to buy the whole season set. 2nd of all, novalizations and comic adaptions add to the initial eppisode or movie. Whether it's more inisght into the characters or more animated scenes where budget restrictions forced the use of cheap & crappy CGI.
My only beef with this particular adaptions is the over board use of dark brown. The art is too dark. You can color night scenes or darken room scenes without it looking like someone spilled a bucket of dark brown color on it.

Doctor Who classics series 2 #1

This issue collect 2 short stories featuring the 4th Doctor. As usual the coloring and re-printing quality is great. Kodus to IDW.
The Life Bringer - A dimensional warp brings the Doctor and K9 to a beach and a rock to which the Titan Prometheus has been chained as punishment for bringing the spark of Life to the galaxy. The Doctor and K9 free him and use the TARDIS to take him to the planet Olympus, where the gods are still angry at him for scattering Life across the galaxy before it had been perfected. Zeus has Prometheus locked up and sends the Doctor to Asclepius for dissection, but the Doctor manages to escape and frees Prometheus. Before departing, Prometheus once again steals Zeus’ precious life spores. The Doctor, K9 and Prometheus reach the TARDIS and flee just as the enraged Zeus attempts to smite them with a thunderbolt. The thunderbolt scrambles the TARDIS’ navigational systems, so that when Prometheus departs to spread the spark of random Life throughout Zeus’ sterile galaxy once again, the Doctor can’t be sure whether he’s just left Earth -- or is just approaching it.
The story is nice but it would have been nicer if the Olympians were described a bit deferent then in the Greek mythology. This is supposed to be sci-fi story. Sicne I believe that old the mythological gods were beings from advanced races, I don't see anything special about the Doctor encountering them and the way they treat humans.
War of the Words - The TARDIS lands on the library world Biblios, where a vicious battle is being fought in orbit between the Vromyx and Garynths. The two species are each attempting to prevent the other from gaining access to the planet’s data on super-weapons, although the robot librarians have repeatedly told them that there are no such records. The Doctor uses a map of the library to locate an empty storage facility, and then contacts the fleet leaders and informs them that he intends to ensure neither species will ever get its hands on the super-weapon data. He then destroys the empty building, and the fleets, assuming that there is no longer anything to fight over, depart empty-handed.
Beings from alien races behaving in a very typical human way.
All in all, this issue is a veyr nice and easy reading. Perfect for mid-summer :)

Star Trek archives vol/5 - Captain Kirk

This volume collects issues #7-12 of DC's 2nd Star Trek run. The story start with the Klingons and another race that I never heard of, demanding Kirk's head. The Klingons for his "crimes" against them during the 3rd movie. The other race because Kirk "defied" their spiritual leader. Because the collection start only in issue #7, I don't know what happemed between the Enterprise and the other race. It felt like the the story began in the middle. Later it was mentioned that Kirk's "crime" was sheltering a memeber of that race that their leader wanted to kill.

Anyhow, the 1st 3 issues tell about Kirk managing to escape from a bounty hunter sent after him by the Klingons and the other race. the last 3 issues tell what happened during the trial. The story is great and the art not bad considering that it's a DC run. I esp. loved the conversations between Spock and Sarek - his dad.
