Vampire Academy: Frostbite
Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose. It's winter break at St. Vladimir's, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy's crawling with Guardians–including Rose's hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn't bad enough, Rose's tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason's got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks...This year, St. Vlad's annual holiday ski trip is mandatory. But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price...
The 2nd Vampire Academy book is as good as the 1st one, and definetly belongs to the WOW list. Rose and Lissa finally settle back to life in school, but not for long. The book is action packed and there isn't a dull moment. It's one of those books that when you finish it you are sorry that you don't have the next book waiting ... . Loved how young Moroi are starting to realize that in order to survive they must start using magic as weapon and fight alongside their guardiens.
Pretty little liars - Sara Shepard
Alison, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer were best friends, until Alison disappeared. Three years later, the remaining girls, now juniors at Rosewood Day, are leading separate, but charmed lives. After living in Iceland, Aria returns home sophisticated and worldly. Emily is a champion swimmer, Hanna is the most popular girl in school, and Spencer's accomplishments make the average type-A valedictorian look like a slacker. But in Rosewood, appearances are deceiving, and when the girls start receiving mysterious texts signed by someone named A, the past threatens to ruin their perfect present. A claims to know all of their secrets—but who is A? How much does A really know? And what can four pretty little liars do to protect themselves from the truth?
I love the TV serie and still haven't figured out who A is and how she/he manage to spy on the girls. When I got the book, I hoped that it will solve the mystery. Unfortunatly it's only the 1st book in the series and only cover the story of the first 2-3 episodes. Although I already know the story, the book added some nice backgorund about the characters and the happenings.
The league of extraordinary gentlemen vol.1
It's 1898 and at the behest of M, the mysterious head of the secret Service, Campion Bond is dispatched to procure the services of Miss Mina Murray (nee Harker), adventurer Allan Quartermain, "Science-Pirate" Captain Nemo, Henry Jekyll (and his monstrous alter ego) and Hawley Griffin (a.k.a. the Invisible Man). Together, they must combat an insidious threat that will decide supremacy of the London skies, but their success may unleash a far greater threat.
Very good reading. Till the almost the end I did't guess that M is actually Moriarty. In a way this books is a sequell to Dracula as far as Mina Harker is concerned. I just love reading stories happening in victorian London. The art isn't bad either. As usual I wish that DC will use better quality paper. Looking forward to reading vol.2 which I already own :)

New books
Although Star Trek books are available in the local bookshops, for some reason the new ones don't arrive to the used books shops. So I got tired of waiting and bought 3 new books when Stimatzky included them in the 3 for 2 bargain:
- Star Trek Typhon Pact: Zero sim game
- Star Trek Typhon Pact: Seize the fire
- Star Trek TNG: Indistinguishable from magic

Doctor Who: Peacemaker
The peace and quiet of a remote homestead in the 1880s American West is shattered by the arrival of two shadowy outriders searching for 'the healer'. When the farmer refuses to help them, they raze the house to the ground using guns that shoot bolts of energy instead of bullets. Meanwhile, in the town of Redwater, the Doctor and Martha learn of a snake-oil salesman who's patent medicines actually cure his patient. But when the Doctor and Martha investigate they discover the truth is stranger, and far more dangerous. Caught between the law of the gun and the deadly plans of intergalactic mercenaries, the Doctor and Martha are about to discover just how wild the West can become...
The message behind the book is that creating the ultimate weapon is a very bad idea. Yes, in the short term it will win the war for it's creators. But sooner or later it will turn on it's creators, esp. if it has an A.I..

They told him his uncle died in a car accident. Fourteen-year-old Alex knows that's a lie, and the bullet holes in his uncle's windshield confirm his suspicions. But nothing prepares him for the news that the uncle he always thought he knew was really a spy for MI6 - Britain's top secret intelligence agency. Recruited to find his uncle's killers and complete his final mission, Alex suddenly finds himself caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
After the disappointment from the Young Bond books I wasn't sure if I'll like this book. The idea is similar to the Young Bond books: the Britich secret service has to enlist a teenager to save the day. But unlike young James Bond who is protrayed as a rediculous superhero who never make a mistake, Alex Rider knows his limitations and makes lots of mistakes. The book is enjoyable although it's not in the same class as Riordan or Rowling books. Looking forward to reading the next book in the serie.
Grave secrets - Kartyh Reichs
A harrowing excavation unearths a chilling tragedy never laid to rest. They are “the disappeared,” twenty-three massacre victims buried in a well in the Guatemalan village of Chupan Ya two decades ago. Leading a team of experts on a meticulous, heartbreaking dig, Tempe Brennan pieces together the violence of the past. But a fresh wave of terror begins when the horrific sounds of a fatal attack on two colleagues come in on a blood-chilling satellite call. Teaming up with Special Crimes Investigator Bartolomé Galiano and Montreal detective Andrew Ryan, Tempe quickly becomes enmeshed in the cases of four privileged young women who have vanished from Guatemala City — and finds herself caught in deadly territory where power, money, greed, and science converge.
Great book. Till the end I didn't suspect who the murderer is. Till the end I was sure that it was the Canadian ambasador. The only annoying thing is the use of 3 langauges (English, Frenck & Spanish), 2 of which I don't know. Can't understand why Reichs insist on using more then one language in her books.

Body trace - D.H. Dublin
When the bodies of two women are discovered at a University of Pennsylvania sorority house, C.S.U. rookie Madison Cross, determined to make her mark, does not believe the ruling that these deaths were accidental and uses her instincts to find the truth. In a way this book is about Kathy Reichs's Dr. Brenan at the beginning of her career. Nice book. The autor wrote 2 more books like this. If I'm lucky they'll appear in my used books shop :)
New books
Found several of Anthony Horowitz young adults books in the used books shop and decided to give them a try in the hope that they'll be as good as Rick Riordan's books and not a disapointment as the "young Bond" books:
- Stormbreaker
- Point blank
- Scorpia
- Ark angel
- Evil star

Stargate Atlantis: Homecoming
The first of a six book series set after the end of Stargate Atlantis's final season, Homecoming sees Atlantis return to the Pegasus Galaxy. But the situation in Pegasus has changed. The Wraith are on the verge of unification under the new and powerful Queen Death. She stages a daring raid with one goal: the capture of the only man able to give their ships hyperdrive and lead them to Earth — Dr. Rodney McKay.Finally a good Stargate book after the last several disappointing ones. It took me a week to read it which is great. Although the name hints at a story about Atlantis on Earth after the war with the Wraith, it's not. The book is the 1st part of a saga in which Atlantis has to keep the Wraith from again attacking Earth.
Blood ties: Blood lines
Sealed away through unending centuries in a sarcophagus never meant to be opened, he had patiently waited for the opportunity to live again, for the chance to feed on the unwary and grow strong. Now, at last, the waiting had come to an end. Brought to the Egyptology Department of Toronto's Royal Ontario Museum, the seals and spells that imprisoned him shipped away by his discoverers, he reached forth to claim the minds and souls of the unsuspecting city dwellers, to begin building an empire for himself and his god. And only three people had even the hint that anything was wrong. For Henry Fitzroy, 450-year-old vampire, it began with a haunting, inescapable image of the sun, a terrifying symbol of death to one such as he. Fearing for his sanity, he called upon his sometime-lover and comrade in supernatural investigations, ex-cop Vicki Nelson, for help. And even as the two struggled to cope with Henry's obsession, Vicki's closest friend and former partner, Police Detective Mike Celluci was following up on two mysterious deaths at the museum, certain he was looking at murders, not accidents -- and equally convinced that the killer was a mummy brought back from the dead!A book worthy of the WOW list. I started reading it on a monday thinking that I'll finish reading before I left to the Netherlands on Thursday. Boy I was worng. It took me a week to read, a fact that I'm very happy about. What I'm not happy about is the fact that Huff decided not to write more Blood and/or Shadow books. The world of Henry, Vicky, Mike & Tony is wonderful and very rich. It's a shame that it had to end.
The book shows how weak human kind is, and how easily humans can be manipulated and tempted by external force like mind control. Even Henry the vampire found it hard not to be tempted by the Egyptian magician because of the shred of humanity still in him.
Doctor Who: Nught of the humans
'This is the Gyre - the most hostile environment in the galaxy...' 250,000 years' worth of junk floating in deep space, home to the shipwrecked Sittuun, the carnivorous Sollogs, and worst of all - the Humans. The Doctor and Amy arrive on this terrifying world in the middle of an all-out frontier war between Sittuun and Humans, and the countdown has already started. There's a comet in the sky, and it's on a collision course with the Gyre...When the Doctor is kidnapped, it's up to Amy and "galaxy-famous swashbuckler" Dirk Slipstream to save the day. But who is Slipstream, exactly? And what is he really doing here?Another The Doctor & Amy adventure that took me only 2 days to read and that the out come aka The Doctor & Amy getting away at the last moment, is obvious. The twist is in presenting the Doctor's beloved humans at their worst and the aliens as the good guys.
Bones: Buried deep
Tempe's work at the Jeffersonian Institute is put on hold when Special Agent Seeley Booth, stalled on a case deposing a Chicago mob family, calls her in to assist with a bizarre discovery: a plastic bag of skeletal remains — and a chilling note — left on the steps of a federal building. Tempe determines the bones are from different corpses, suggesting a serial killer's handiwork. A suspect is quickly taken into custody, but Tempe senses the case is far from closed. And as Booth's Mafia case heats up with violent twists and bloody discoveries, including ties to one of Chicago's most gruesome and notorious killers, Tempe must unravel the story of the bones, where the truth lies buried — in order to stay alive. I love the Bones series and am very disappointed that this is the only Bones novel written. I loved the book and Collins's redintion of both Booth and Brenan is perfect. If anyone know about more Bones novels (aside from Kathy Reichs's books), please let me know.
Young Bond: Double or die

Kidnap, violence, explosions, murder - it's no ordinary weekend. But then, James Bond is no ordinary boy ...
In a North London cemetery, a professor is kidnapped at gunpoint. A suspicious letter crammed with cryptic clues arrives at Eton. To decipher the deadly mystery, James Bond must take a series of dangerous gambles. Once the code is cracked, he has just forty-eight hours to save the professor from the dark forces that threaten to destroy them both. And, if the professor can't escape, it's not only his future under threat. It's the rest of the world's ...

Another idiotic book in the idiotic young bond series. I didn't even bother to read it till the end. In a way it's a copy of the Harry Potter idea with James and his friends as Harry, Ron and Hermonie. But while in the fictional magical world of Harry potter Harry's exploites can be accepted, in the not fictional world of pre-WW2 Europe James's exploties are redicoulus. The books in the serie I already own are going to the "to sell" pile.
Sanctuary - Meg Cabot
Sixteen-year-old Jessica Mastriani knew she wasn't going to be able to hide her psychic powers from the U.S. government—interested in utilizing her special skills for their own devices—forever. But she never thought that she and Cyrus Krantz, the special agent brought in to "convince" Jess to join his elite team of "specially-gifted" crime solvers, would turn out to have something in common. But when a local boy's disappearance is attributed to a backwoods militai group, Jess's goal—to find the missing child—and Dr. Krantz's—to stop a group of madmen before they kill again—turn out to be one and the same. Suddenly Jess finds herself working with one enemy in order to stop a far worse one. In an atmosphere of hate and fear, can Jess and Dr. Krantz—not to mention Jess's would-be boyfriend Rob—work together to unite a community and save a life...without losing their own? Cute book in the way it present the American agents as incompetents so that only Jess & Rob can save the day. I completly understand why Cabot stopped writing the series after book 5. The story is starting to get old and there are only that many ways of twisting around the idea of the Feds trying to get Jess to work for them.
