I loved the old Dark Horse Angel comics and those from IDW prior to Angel: After the fall. The stories were like the TV eppisodes with Angel fighting the demons and vampires and saving LA's humans. The art is also balanced. The monsters are there but not distracting. I realy don't like the Angel after the fall #1-17 issues. The stories don't bother me so much as the art. The monsters are dominanting everything and are very distracting. Thankfully those 1st story arcs are over and LA is back from hell.
Issues #18-22 are back to normal and I love it. In the story arc "Aftermath" LA is back from hell and we are back to Angel fighting the bad guys and helping the good ones. Loveds the use of the word "Elohim" which means "God" in Hebrew. The art is again well balanced. Again it's possible to dicheper what's happening in each panel without being distarcted by dominating monsters. Crossing my fingers the that next story arc will be as good as Aftermath is.
IDW's idea to re-print the old Marvel Star Trek comics is great but the finished priduct is far from that. IDW is doing a wonderful job with the re-printing of the DC Star Trek comics in the Archives series and the coloring and re-printing of the old Doctor Who comics so I was really looking forward for this omnibus and was disappointed.
Usualy I don't read seperate issues and wait for the whole story arc or series, but I just had to read the 1st issue of Tek War. It's a weird one. The art is most of the time good but there are many too dark panels that make it hard to dechiper what's going on. The story is also weird. I own most of the Tek War books. The 1st story arc looks like adaptaion of the 1st book, but there are changes in the story. In all the books Sid Gomez is alive and well and is Jake's partner in his investigations. But in issues #0-1 Gomez is dead and Jake was convicted of killing him. Very weird.
Another great Star Trek series from IDW. Loved the story and the art. The story about the rebelion kind of reminded me of the Terminator story with the Klingons instead of the skynet. I'm glad that Tichman isn't the writer. His Star Trek stories were like swiss cheese.
I've decided to write reviews of the comics I'm reading and the 1st is about Star Trek: Countdown. Loved the art and the story. It's a great idea to write the back story explaining howwho Nero is and why the vendeta. Now I'm ready to see the movie haven't seen yet.14 items so far solicited for September 09
