Star Trek books

Something very weird and unpleasant is happening re my reading habits. After finishing the Percy Jackson books I tried to read 3 different Star Trek books (new frontier, vanguard & enterprise) and couldn't finish any of them. Star Trek was and is my 1st love in reading. It's the 1st time ever that I couldn't finish a Star Trek book, not to mention 3 in an row. Very weird. And it's not because suddenly I'm incapable of enjoying reading. I moved to a Doctor Who book and can't put it down. I'm going to keep collecting Star Trek books and hopefully I'll start enjoying them again soon.

A-Team: shotgun wedding

It's been too long since the last time I watched an A-Team episode and reading this comics series was like watching one. The 1st issue is a stand alone story about a mission in the arctic. Issues #2-4 are the main story with the team saving a bride from some revenge aimed at her father. The art is good too. Hopefully the upcoming movie will be successful and there will be more A-Team comics.

Doctor Who comics news from Tony Lee

In an interview on CBR Mr. Lee announced that "July marks the beginning of the end for the Tenth Doctor at IDW as writer Tony Lee and artist Matthew Dow Smith prepare the "Final Sacrifice" arc. Following a prelude episode in the "Doctor Who Annual 2010," the story continues in "Doctor Who" #13-16, after which the ongoing series will end, to be replaced by a new volume starring the Eleventh Doctor".

I'm still very sad that David Tennant left. The jury is still out re the 11th Doctor, but I'm looking forward to the new comics :)

Flash Gordon moving to Dynamite

Last year Arrden published a 6 issues Flash Gordon comics. They promised that it's going to be an ongoing series at least 18 issues long, but there was and is no sign of issue #7. Now Dynamite announce that they acquired the right to Flash Gordon. According to CBR "Dynamite's comic book story begins as Earth is bombarded by fiery meteors. Dr. Zarkov believes the meteors are from outer space and invents a rocket ship to locate their place of origin. Half mad, he kidnaps Flash and Dale, whose plane has crashed in the area, and the three travel to the planet Mongo, where they discover the meteors are weapons devised by Ming the Merciless, evil ruler of Mongo".

Of course I'm looking forward to it and just hope that Dynamite is not biting more then they can chew with all the new acquisitions.

Pirates of the Caribeans 3 - at world's end

Last night I watched the 3rd part of the Pirates of the Caribbeans trilogy and all I can say is that it's the most stupid movie I watched for a long time. The story was lame and the special effects were not that impressive. I was a waste of 2.5 hours.

True Blood - the TV series

After watching the 1st 3 episodes of the TV series True Blood, the jury is still out. I like vampire stories, but disliked the 1st book because as posted before, I can't stand Charliane Harris writing, whether it's the vampire books or the crime books. So far season 1 is an adaptation of the 1st book. It's too slow. For example, the 3rd episode was all about Terra and Jason's sexcapades with various partners. Only in the end the story moved on with a new body. Talking about the sex scenes - they are too explicit and too numerous. I've got nothing against a good sex movie, but this is supposed to be an action series, not a porn one. The southern accent used by the actors sounds fake and sometimes hard to dechiper, although usually I don't have any problem with accents. Bottom line - so far this series isn't worth paying for watching it on HBO on demand.

The X-files vol. 2

Thank you Checker for collecting and re-printing the old Topps issues. Without you I would have missed reading good stories with quite good art. Vol. 3 is definitely on my reading list :)

Percy Jackson: The last olympian

I know it's only a kids book copying the Harry Potter format, but I don't care. It's a great read. Like Harry, Percy ends as the hero who saved Olympus. He turns down the offer to become a god so he can be with Annabeth. The book ends with a new great prophecy and I'm so looking forward to the sequel series.

IDW for August 2010

  1. The Murder of King Tut #3
  2. True Blood #2
  3. Angel #36
  4. Spike: The Devil You Know #3

  6. Star Trek: Burden of Knowledge #3
  7. Doctor Who #14
  8. Doctor Who Classics III #6

10 items solicited so far for August 2010.

The IDW August solicitations are a bit disappointing because for the 1st time in ages there is not even 1 new series or oneshot. But, in Diamond's "new series" section I found listing for "Torchwood #1" from Titan comics. Crossing my fingers that it's a new Torchwood comics series.

Percy Jackson: The battle of the labyrinth

The pentulament book of the Percy Jackson adventures. This time Percy has to navigate Daedalus's labyrinth. He meets Daedalus himself and adopts a hell hound as his doggie. As the previous books this book is also very entertaining and un-putdownable :)

Buffy season 8 #32-35 - Twilight

The Twilight arc is great. Finally Angel and Buffy are together and have some out of the world sex. There is only 1 little problem with this story: according to Angel/Buffy cannon, Angel was cursed by a gypsy and supposed to loose his soul if he find happiness and return to be Angelus. This happened in the past when he was in love with Buffy. But for some reason the arc ends with a very happy Angel with his soul intact.

Witchblade: origins vol.1

This is the beginning of Sara Pazinni & the witchblade. Loved the story about how Paz got involved with the witchblade. The art is a different story. I didn't like it at all. It's too big and frequently the proportions are wrong. The artist has a very limited imagination when it comes to drawing for example different men or women party clothes. Irons and Jake are identical except for hair color, and the women clothes look the same (red & clingy) except for Sara's gown at the end of the book. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the other 2 volumes :)

Corsair

A typical Clive Cussler book with lots of action and an "incredible find" at the end, which this time is a sample of Jesus blood. The heroes are the Oregon's crew. The book try to pass the message that Islam & Christianity should co-exist and that terrorism is against the koran. But what about Judaism ??? Anyhow some how I don't see Bin Laden and the Iranian president abiding by this message. The writers, as most westerners are blond to the Muslims agenda: to dominate the world and make Islam the only valid faith.

Torchwood: Bay of the dead

The book should have been titled "The night of the zombies" because all the book happen during one zombies infected night in Cardiff. I have no problem with alien happenings, but Cardiff being cut off from the rest of the world and no one notice ??? The team is smaller as shown on the cover. Owen and Tosh are missed.
