It took watching only the 1st 2 episodes of Fringe for me to order and buy this comics book and I wasn't disappointed. The 1st half of the books tells about the early adventures of Walter Bishop and William Bell and how they met. It's good to get some info about what happened before episode 1. But as the show itself, the story leave a very big un-answered question: how did William Bell who was the more moral bound and cautious of the pair became the head of the ruthless "massive dynamics" corporation ??? The rest of the book is a collection of short stories about crazy experiments done on unsuspecting humans. The show's main characters are not mentioned in those stories, but there are hints to "the pattern" and to "massive dynamics". It's an interesting read, and I'm looking forward to the next book "Fringe: tales from the fringe" when it will come out as a TPB. The art is also good. My only complaint is that for the price tag of $20, DC could have used better quality paper.
I also like the show. The "scientific" ideas sound like extreme sci-fi, but it's refreshing to watch sci-fi that isn't about spaceships, although I'm sure that sooner or later one will be revealed :) Each episode reveals new info about the "pattern" and open new questions. I just hope that the writers have exciting answers to those questions and will not come up with cope up solutions like "it's all a dream of the loony Walter who is still in that mental hospital".
