Super heros comics not my cup of tea

When I started reading comics about 4 years ago, it was because of the release of Highlander comics serie and back then I was crazy about all things Highlander. Then I realized that comics is just another format of reading stories from my favorite universes like Star Trek, Doctor Who, Stargate etc. But comics is mainly about super heros like X-Men, Superman, Batman, Spider man etc. Not long after I got into the comics scene, I found in the bargain bin an x-men graphic novel (Phonix rising) and decided to give it a try, but didn't like it mostly because in every other panel there was a referal to issue #x in series a or b or c etc. Since I had no intention of starting to read all those series I decided to stay away from the super hero comics.

Don't get me wrong I like the movies, except for the Spider man ones, which I can't stand because of the lead actor Toby McGuire (sp) whose whinning voice I can't stand. And the 1st Iron Man movie with Shakil O'neil (sp) which was stupid beyond words. I also liked the comics adaptation of the 2nd Spider man movie, which I got for free in one of the local comics cons. That's why when about a month ago I found out in my local used books shops the 1st 2 volumes of the ultimate collections of Ultimate Spider man for less then $10 each, I've decided to give it another try. I was disappointed again. This time there were no referals to other comics but the story is boring mostly because the pace is too slow. So I've put volume 1 aside before finishing to read it and and I'm not going to get more of those collections or any other super heros comics.

What can I say, it looks like super hero comics are still not my cup of tea.
