Scarpetta: The Scarpetta factor

This book is more a Benton story then Scarpetta, and I'm a very happy Benton fan. The French Wolfman that escaped from death row in Blow Fly is back maskarading as an American buisnessman. We learn that Benton had to fake his death and later leave the FBI because of an envious deaf cologue who blamed Lucy's AI for his misfortune and took it on Benton & Scarpetta.
This is the 1st book in which Benton & Scarpetaa are living togther in New York. The Wolfman using the the deaf nutter, a nutty female banl robber/witch & a wannabe TV talk show hostess, try to mame Scarpetta with a stink bomb. At the end The deaf nutter commit suicide and Benton kills the Wolfman. But the TV woman & the bank robber are still at large and may appear in future book.
Scarpetta is very annoying. She keep bringing up how much she suffered when Benton was "dead". Like Benton didn't suffer having to live as a gay and knowing how much the woman he love is suffering.

Scarpetta: Book od dead

Although again it's a serial killer story, this book is great. The best part is the beginning: Benton & Scarpetta are in Rome helping the Italian police, and Benton ask Scarpetta to marry him. When she come back to Charelston (her base in this book) with the ring and news of the engagment, Marino flips and attack Scarpetta.

BTW - the killer is the son of the nutty shrink Dr. Self from Predator. I won't be surprised if Dr. Self won't appear again in future book still trying to humilate Scarpetta.

Scarpetta: Predator

Another serial killer story. Scapetta's base of operation this time is Miami where is the head of a forensic academy owned by Lucy. Benton is in Boston analyzing a convicted serial murderer. Benton & Scarpetta are lovers again but don't seem to be able to live together. Marino is also there starting to act weird. At the end we find that Benton & Scarpetta's cases are interwind. Good reading but not more then that.

Smallville news from DC

Some comics news for a change:

Fans of the smash-hit TV series Smallville haven’t had much to cheer about since the show ended its critically acclaimed 10-year run on The CW last May. That’s all going to change with the upcoming new comic book series from DC Entertainment: SMALLVILLE SEASON 11.
Written by former Smallville show scribe Bryan Q. Miller, the new digital first series will be published digitally on April 13, 2012, with new digital chapters released weekly thereafter. Additionally, the online chapters will be offered in a print periodical, along with an episode guide to the hit television series, with the first print issue released on May 16.
The new comic book series picks-up where the show left off (with Clark officially now as Superman!) and features other fan-favorite characters including Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Chloe Sullivan-Queen, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and General Lane. “Six months after Clark Kent donned the cape and took to the skies to save Earth from Apokolips… enter Season 11!” enthuses Miller. “New allies abound! New enemies afoot! And old friends return where they’re least expected! Pere and colorist Chris Beckett have done a fantastic job of capturing the look of the show and the players, and Gary and Cat are knocking it out of the park on covers. I couldn’t be more excited to help give seasoned viewers and new readers an all-access pass to Clark’s first year in the cape.”

Scarpetta: Trace

A very weird book. Scarpetta & Marino go back to Richmond, Virginia where she used to be CME, to help with a death of a teenager. Benton who is now officialy alive is in Aspen trying to help Lucy's latest lover who was attacked in Florida by the same guy who murdered the teenager. And who happen to be one of Scarpetta's former employees. Confused already ??? If that's not enough. we discover that Lucy is responsible for the murderer's lung disease because as a teemager she bumped into him in the morgue, a bump that caused him to swallow a drop of phormalin. So now he is intnet on killing Lucy.

Since the book is not written from Scarpetta's point of view, there are many side stories. Some of them are pointless like the story of the current CME's garbage collector's phobia. This has no bearing on the main stories. And doesn't add anything to explaining why he is mistreating Scarpetta. It was already established that he resented Scarpetta because when he was hired he was told that he will never be able to fill her huge shoes. This explanation is enough and there is no need for the garbage phobia.

This brings me to an observation I already made about Patricia Corenwell. In a way Scarpetta is her and the way she always come with characters who resent and hate Scarpetta for who she is, kind of make me think that she is a bit paranoid and think that people resent her just because she is a successful female author. IMO

When I started reading the book I was mad at Scarpetta because she refused to sleep with Benton inspite of what he went through to keep her safe. Lucky for her in the end when she finally get to Aspen Scarpetta is very loving toward Benton.
