Victorian undead II: Sherlock Holmes v/ Dracula

Wonderful graphic novel. There are 2 classical stories: Dr. Jeckyl & Mr. Hyde and Dracula. In both stories Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson go after the monsters, kill them and save England. I hope that there will be more books. The art is wonderful too.

Bones: Bones to ashes

Sorry to say that this book wasn't very exciting which is a 1st for Kathy Reichs books. Maybe it was Tempe's obbsession with her childhood friends was put me off the book. Crossing fingers that this is the only not so interesting Reichs book.

Evernight: Stargazer

The 2nd book in the Evernight books is even better then the 1st. Bianca is rebelling against her parents and the vampire community. She dosn't want to be a full vampire. Bianca also discover that while her parents want her to be a vampire, there are wraiths (not the Stargate Atlantis kind but the ghost kind) that want her to diseand become a wraith. At the same time Bianca try to find why the school is suddenly addmiting human students and why those students and not others. The book ends with Bianca finding shelter with a group of vampire hunters who except for her boyfriend Lucas, don't know that she is a live vampire.

Scarpetta: Cruel & unusual

Although I can't put down the Scarpetta books, they are so far following the same formula: Scarpetta is going after a serial killer and find herself threatened by the killer. Unlike the previous books, although Scarpetta and Marino discover the identity of the killer, he manage to run away and is not cuaght. I'm now reading the next book in the series and Scarpetta & co. suspect that he is behind the new murder in that book.

Evernight - Claudia Gray

I found the 1st 3 books in the Evernight series in Stimatsky's bargain bin, decided to give them a try and doens't regret it :)

The beginning of the book is in the same formula as other supernatural young adults books: A teenage girl usually in a boarding school, discover that she isn't a normal teenager and have paranormal powers, or falls in love with a super natural being passing himself as a human teenager. But at the middle of the books we discover that as I suspected from the school's name, Evernight is a boarding school for vampires, and that Bianca herself is the daughter of 2 vampires and knew about it since she was old enough to understand. Although she is alive, Bianca has fangs and hunger for blood. She is supposed to one day kill a human and become a full undead vampire. Till then she is looked down by the vampire students and has to keep her true nature a secret from her human friends.

The books is unputdownable and belongs to the WOW list.

Dark Visions - L.J. Smith

This is a collection of the trilogy. It's unputdownable and a candidate for the WOW list. The formula is the same as in other yougf adults vampire books. A teenager that find that she has magic / psychic powers and falls in love with another magical being like vampire or fallen angel.

Scarpetta: All that remains

This is the 3rd Scarpetta book and I'm starting to see a pattern: Again Scarpetta is chasing a serial killer. With the help of Lt. Marino and her friend Abby she discover that the killer is an anonymous book seller, and not all the characters in the books that I suspected.

Buffy: Mortal fear

The 1st Buffy book that read that is taking place long after the Scoobies graduated from highschool. The book shows the down side of an A.I. gaining sentinence. Buffy finds herself all alone running around Sunnydale trying to vanquish demons sent there by the mysterious Simon. All the while Simon is controling Xander & Willow. Only Spike is there to help Buffy.
40 pages are missing from mycopy but it didn't hindered me enjoying the book :)

Scarpetta: Postmortem

This is the 1st Scarpetta novel. It's written in 1st person like the 2nd book. The plot is also a bit similar: A serial rapist / killer terrorise single women till he is killed by then Srg. Marino when he try tp rape and murder Scrapetta in her bedroom. The end is anticlimatic when the rapsit killer isn't some key character but an anonymus young man who worked in the police com room answering 911 calls and chose his victims by their voices.

Inspite of all the above I enjoyed the book and till the end was sure that the murderer / rapist is Scrapetta's then boy friend who is also the district attorny. I love reading books that I can't deduce who the killer is. :)

The Hedge Knight II: Sworn Sword

The art in this book is very good but I'm sorry to say that story is too childish. I thought that George R. R. Martin is a better story teller that that. There is nothing interesting in the story about a 2 land owners fighting over water and using the poor people living on their lands to fight for them. This TPB is already in the "for sale" pile and I'm going to stay away from Martin's books and comics.

Murder she wrote: Rum & Razors

Jessica Fletcher has friends who left Cabot Cob in order to run an inn somewhere, Jessica is staying at the inn as their guest and someone get murdered. Sounds familiar ??? That's because this plot is also used in the book titled "Blood on the vine " that was written several years later. While the this book take place in the island of St. Thomas and Jessica is helped by Dr. Seth Hazlet, in the later book she is Napa valley and is helped by her Scotland Yard buddy George Sutherland.

During her investigation into the murder of her friend Walter Marschalk. she discover that he wasn't the nice guy that every one in Cabot Cob thought he was. She also manage to save the life of a young islander who was set up to take the fall as the alleged murderer.

Murder She Wrote books are always a pleasure to read even if some of the plot is reused.

Scarpetta: Body of evidence

This is the 2nd book in the Scarpetta series, and it's totally different from the 16th book (Scarpetta) that I read before. While the 16th book is written in 3rd person and is full with phsyco bubble, this 2nd book is written in 1st person and no said bubble. Another difference is that in book 16 Benton Wesley, who is by then Scarpetta's hubby is refered to as "Benton", in book 2 he is refered to as "Wesley". I definitly prefer the 1st person version. Kathy Reichs also write her Brenan books in 1st person.

In this books Scarpetta is after a deranged killer who murdered a novelist and people connected to her. Before he is caught the killer also try to kill Scarpetta herself.

I'm reading now the 1st book in the series (Postmoertem). In that book Scarpetta doesn't like Marinpo - the detective working with her. In book 2 they are best of friends. I hope that when I'll finished the book I'll find out what made her change her mind about Marino.

Doctor Who: The pirate loop

A typical Doctor Who book. The Doctor & Martha land on a future starship a short while before the ship disappeared. What they discover is the human race at it's ugliest. Workers without mouthes so thay won't be able o talk back to their employers, and a hybrid human/badger creatures who are used as slaves.

I love the Doctor Who books. Esp. the 10th Doctor's, but they are read too quickly :(

Scarpetta - Patricia Cornwell

This is the 1st Scarpetta book I read. I enjoyed it so much that I went and bought all the Scarpetta book avaiable at the used books shops here.

I can definetly do without all the psychobubble and the characters' selfmusings. Still it's very good mystery book, and till the end I didn't suspect that the Hispanic doctor turned cop is the psycopath murderer. I also didn't suspect that the 1st victim - the dwarf female is the one bad mouthing Scarpetta in the Gotham (no Batman) column. Instead I mistakenly suspected the ME Lester or the skin doctor as the columnist.

I love mystery books where I can't figure out who the bad guys are :)

The slient sea - Clive Cussler

An a-typical Cussler book. Usually the heros find and reveal to the world hidden treasures that are founn in usually uncommon places like the Alexandria library or Columbus's tomb. Here the Oregon's crew destroy a chineese historical ship near Antarctica in order to keep the Chneese for claiming the continent and it's oil for themselves.

As usual a very action packed book and very enjoyable read.

Fallen: Torment

The 2nd book in the Fallen series belongs to the WOW list as the 1st. I wasn't able to put it down.

This time Luce is going to a boarding school in California with Nephilim kids. She is suppused to be safe there with Daniel the angel and Cam the demon hunting down those who are trying to kill or kidnap her. The only problem is that no one bothered explaining to Luce why she should stay on campus grounds. So she keep sneaking out and putting herself in danger. Also Luce starting to like Miles - a Nephilim kid and to question the love between her and Daniel. The book end with Luce going back in time and Daniel trying to find her.

Can't wait to buy the 3rd book.

Star Trek: Typhon pact - Seize the fire

The 2nd book in the Typhon Pact series is disappointing and boring with a capital B. After reading half of it I started skimming till the end. When I saw that there is a Typhon Pact series, I envisioned stories about the Federation v. the Pact. Instead we get books each concentrated on a species that is part of the Pact. The 1st book was about the Breen. This one is about the Gorn.

The whole story is about the U.S.S Titan trying to stop the Gorn from teraforming an inhabited planet and destroying the natives and their civilization. The book shoud have been part of the Titan books IMO.

Formic Wars: Burning Earth

When Marvel announced this prequel to Ender's game, I decided to pass. Now I'm glad that I bought it at Icon. I've no idea why it was sold at the 2nd hand booth for hapf price. The story is great and so is the art. This book is a must for Ender's readers.

The Hunger Games = Suzanne Collins

The jury is still out on this trilogy. On the one hand I wasn't able to stop reading and got very annoyed with the way Katniss treats Peeta. On the other hand I dislike the idea of the victors in a civil war enslaving the loosers. I'm shuddering to imagine how the U.S.A would have looked if the North would have treated rrhe South the way the Capitol is treating the 12 Districts.

Guss I'll have to wait till I'll read the 2nd book to decide whether I like & will keep these books.

Bones: 206 bones

Wonderful book. It starts with Tempe waking in a tomb, and goes back to explain how she got there. In the time leading to her abduction, Tempe is accused of malpractice, wit holding information and being careless. She has to solve multiple murders of old ladies and clear her name at the same time.

From the beginning I suspected the upstart Dr. Briel and Tempe's assistant Joe as the ones behind Tempe's defamation and abduction. But it was fun reading the whole story.

Percy Jackson: The son of Neptune

The 2nd book in the Heroes of Olympus series is as great as all the previous Percy Jackson books. The beginning is a bit slow but then the story gets into its stride and it's anothe'r unputdownable book from the WOW list

We learn about Jupiter Camp - the camp of Roman demigods, and about some of the gods in their Roman persona (Juno = Hera, Mars = Ares). We also meet Frank - the son of Mars who is totally different from his Greek sister Clariss and Hazel - the daughter of Pluto = Hades. The only Greek demigods in the book are Percy and Nico di Angelo who is Hazel's Greek brother. Togther with Percy, Hazel and Frank manage to kill 2 of Gaea's giant sons and save Camp Jupiter from a big monster attack. The book ends with a huge cliff hanger: the Argo II from Camp Half Blood land in the middle of Camp Jupiter and Percy with the rest of the Roman demigods go to meet them. Bad Rick Riordan - forcing the readers to wait for a very long year for the next book that will hopefully start with whatever happened in that meeting.

A note to Mr. Riordan - This is a book aimed at children. Don't you think that it's a bit dangerous to state that the online shop Amazon is actually the headquarters of the legendary Amazons ??? Childern are not best know for their ability to tell fiction from reality.

Fallen = Lauren Kate

I bought this book and it's sequel by chance. Saw them in the used books shop but didn't buy them. Then I went to Steimatzky - the big new books store and saw them again. Read the description at the back and decided that I want them. Went back to the used books shop and got the 2 books in mint condition for less then the price a one new book.

Reading the book was a huge surprise. It's an unputdownable book and one for the WOW list. Yes, like in Hunted, part of it is romance novel, but the rest is lots of action & paranormal stuff. Here Luce - the mortal girl falls in love with a good fallen angel, only there are hints that Luce isn't a nere mortal. The book ends with Luce being spirited away from the reform school where she met with the fallen angels (good & bad), after a fight between Daniel - the good angel and Cam the bad one that ended ina tie.

Looking forward to read the next book in the series that is already waiting in the pile of "to read"book waiting beside ny bed :)

Haunted - Meg Cabot

Not very enjoyable book. The formula is the same as in the 1-800 books. Even Suze's tendancy to punch whoever annoy her is the sane as Jess's. The book is more a romacne novel then a paranormal book. The 1-800 books has more action in them and are much more enjoyable.

Doctor Who: Paradox lost

This book is about the old paradox of time travel: if you go back in time and kill your grandpa before your father was born, you will not be born and won't be around to go back in time and kill your grandpa. So who killed your grandpa if you was never born ???

In the book the Doctor, Amy & Rory arrive at the 28th century London and meet an android who was fished out of the Thames and claim that he waited for 1.000 years in the water to warn the Doctor about a life force vampire race infesting London in 1910. The Doctor leave Amy & Rory in the 28th century to find a mysterious scientist who is bulding a time machine, and go back in the Tardis to 1910. There he finds the Vamps and the time machine, Amy & Rory. As it turned out, leaving Amy & Rory in the future is what caused the Vamps to follow them through time and space to 1910 London. As usual the Doctor save London and send the Vamps to another dimenssion.

I enjoyed reading the book more then I enjoyed the other 11th Doctor books that I read so far.

Murder she wrote: Brandy & Bullets

An old mansion in Cabot Cob is sold and turned into a retreat for sturggeling artists. But when said artists start kiliing themsleves and one of Jessica's friend is missing and presumed dead, Jessica start investigating and almost get herself killed. At the end she discover that the CIA is using the retreat as a lab for mind control experiments.

Another great Murder She Wrote book. Loved every minute of it, although early on when hypnosis was discussed, I was sure that the artits weren't succidal but hypnotised.

Alex Rider"Skeleton key

Alex was asked to go undercover as a ball boy in Wimbeldon and gets himself targeted by a chinese triad. To save his life he sent by MI6 to help the CIA against a meglomaniac ex-Russian general who wants to make the world into a communist "paradise". Of course in the end Alex again save the day.

It's getting a bit ridiculous when 2 seasoned CIA agents get themselves killed 5 minutes into the mission while Alex manage to stop the sinister plot. But it's easy reading and very suitable when I don't want to think.

Buffy: Child of the hunt

Buffy & co. find thensleves between a group of warlocks & witches and the Wld Hunt - demons from another demention. This happened because thet tried to help a sad boy who was mistreated by the magicians and who turned out to be the heir of the wild hunt's king.

For some reasom I was reluctant to read the Buffy books that are waiting in the piles by my bed. When I funally decided to give it a try, I wasn't disappointed. Very enjoyable book.

Tempe finds herself in the midst of a doomsday cult head by a crazy woman who is capable of murdering babies jut because their father isn't her chosen mate for the mother. With the hekp of detective Andrew Ryan Tempe solve the mystery and mange the stop the crazy woman before she manage to murder all her followers including Tempe's sister in order to use their "soul energy" for acensstion. When Igot to that part of the book, for a minute I thought that I'm reading a Stargate book LOL. At the end of the book Tempe and Ryan become a couple.

I enjoyed reading the book. It's very interesting and full of suspenc.

Doctor Who: Forever autumn

This time the Doctor & Martha find themselves in New England on Halloween. Everything is ready for the night festivities, but suddenly the trappings (bats, skeletons etc.) come to life and attack the town's people. Enter the Doctor who with the help of his loyal sonic screwdriver find that as usual aliens in a buried spaceship are behind the attacks. Aliens that use people as fuel for their ship. Nasty.

It's an unputdownable book. Good thing that today is Saturday so I was able to read :).

From reading all these Doctor Who booksand watching the show, one can get the idea that our ball of rock is home for lost of aliens and their crashed or entombed spaceships ;)

Robocop news from Dynamite

Road Trip is the first chance to take a look at Robocop's twisted version of America outside the confines of Old Detroit. But OCP isn't going to just let Murphy and what's left of the Old Detroit Police Department run off to get help. An entirely new deadly robot prototype is on their tail. And with Murphy's mind fracturing following the death of his partner, Lewis, Road Trip has a somewhat psychedelic double meaning.

Of course I'm going to pre-order this mini series :) The question is when I'm going to get it. For the last couple of months the shipments from Diamond don't arrive on time to CNV - my local comics shop. We are still waiting for last week's shipment and God only knows when this week's shipemnt will arrive. And when the shipments arrive, they don't include all the Dynamite issues. I'm still waiting for Total Recall #3.

G.I. Joe: A real American hero vol.2

Very entertainign story. Too bad that the Joes are portrayed as too gulible because they enabled Cobra to find the location of the Pit and the baroness to mock them and escape from a very secured cell in the Pit. At least Storm Shadow managed to release Snake Eyes from Cobra's mental grasp. The art is great. looking forward to the next volume.

The great thing about these books is that it's possible to read the next volume months after reading the previous one without having to go back and read the previous book.

Vampire Academy graphic novel

A very good adaptation of the 1st Vampire Academy novel. The art is good too, except for the coloring of the characters. While the Dahmpirs are supposed to be light brown, the Moroi should be white. But some of the Dahmpir boys are colored whiter then they should be which make it hard to know who is who because the faces and hair style are almost the same in all the boys.

I hope that the rest of the books will be adapted too. I enjoy reading them in both formats :)

Doctor Who: Prisoner of the Daleks

Great Doctor Who book. For once it took me several days to finish it. The Doctor is lured by the Daleks to a ruined planet with a rift in time, in order to enable the Daleks to penetrate the time vortex. The Doctor manage to use Dalek X's 1 tract mind and lure it to where the Tardis is and save the day. Although the Doctor prevailing is a given, it was very interesting to read how he did it. Iove David Tenant's Doctor. He is the best Doctor ever.

Eureka: The road less traveled

The crasies inGD manage to open a door between 2 parallel Eurekas and if they won't find a way to close it both Eurekas will be destroyed. As usual sheriff Carter is there to save the day.

A very fun read. This book is as good as the previous 2. The author catched the characters perfectly. Reading it is like watching a very long Eureka eppisode. I wish that there will be more Eureka books, but for now it look like this is the last one :(

Dresden files: Changes

I'm posting from my laptop and for some reason I can't paste anything into this post GRRRRR.

Anyhow, this is the 1st Dresden Files book that I didn't finish reading. From page 1 I didn't like the way the story is going. In the previous 11 books Harry never did anything bad. He kept saving the world. Harry doesn't deserve to loose his office, house and dog. Not to mention loosing his soul to Mab the winter queen. Loosing Mouse was the reason I didn't read till the end. I hate reading of bad things happening to my kids kin :(

Alex Rider: Point blank

When an investigation into a series of mysterious deaths leads agents to an elite prep school for rebellious kids, MI6 assigns Alex Rider to the case. Before he knows it, Alex is hanging out with the sons of the rich and powerful, and something feels wrong. These former juvenile delinquents have turned well-behaved, studious—and identical—overnight. It’s up to Alex to find out who is masterminding this nefarious plot, before they find him.

I love reading books about life in boarding schools. The 2nd book in the Alex Rider series is better then the 1st one. Unlike in the 1st book, here alex is sent to investigate things in a boarding school when more suitable for him then being sent to spy on a computer company. I loved the idea if 16 rich boys being replaced by 16 clones of a madman :)

CSI: Dark sundays

A lavish penthouse party on top of a Vegas hotel and casino plays host to a bizarre set-up to murder in which a security guard is trapped and killed in a private elevator—and the body soon vanishes . . . leading crime scene investigators Nick Stokes and Greg Sanders straight to an uncanny circus troupe with deadly connections to none other than the Russian mafia. In the meantime, Ray Langston and Catherine Willows are called to a psychiatric facility where two patients have just escaped after attacking an orderly. One of the escaped patients, an Iraq war veteran, managed to smuggle in a military-grade nerve gas, inducing realistic and shared three-dimensional illusions and hallucinations . . . and Ray and Catherine must race against time in order to find two very dangerous individuals now roaming freely on the streets of Las Vegas. . . .

A wonderful CSI book. At least the part not involving the hunt for 2 escaped mental patients. Till almost the end when a former CIA agent approaches Greg, there is no clue to what really happened. Well maybe except the fact that a Russian circus is involved. The part of the nuts hunt was boring. The author could have come up with more interesting case for Catherin and Ray. I still miss Grissom. Sonehow CSI isn;t the same without him.

Star Trek Typhon Pact: Zero sum game

A spy for the Typhon Pact—a new political rival of the Federation—steals the plans for Starfleet’s newest technological advance: the slipstream drive. To stop the Typhon Pact from unlocking the drive’s secrets, Starfleet Intelligence recruits a pair of genetically enhanced agents: Dr. Julian Bashir, of station Deep Space 9, and Sarina Douglas, a woman whose talents Bashir helped bring to fruition, and whom Bashir thinks of as his long-lost true love. Bashir and Douglas are sent to infiltrate the mysterious species known as the Breen, find the hidden slipstream project, and destroy it. Meanwhile, light-years away, Captain Ezri Dax and her crew on the U.S.S. Aventine play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a Typhon Pact fleet that stands between them and the safe retrieval of Bashir and Douglas from hostile territory.

The 1st Typhon pact book is not bad. I don't remember seeing or reading anything about Bashir and that Douglas woman & the Jack Pack, but I don't have many of the Star Trek books pre the Destiny trilogy so it doesn't mean anything. I miss having Spock, Picard, Riker etc. in the story. The books give an extensive view into the Breen species. During the book we learn that they are not a homogenous species. They are an amalgamation of 4-5 species that hide behing uniform body armour and helmets.

Vampire Academy: Frostbite

Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose. It's winter break at St. Vladimir's, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy's crawling with Guardians–including Rose's hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn't bad enough, Rose's tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason's got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa's head while she's making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy's not taking any risks...This year, St. Vlad's annual holiday ski trip is mandatory. But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price...

The 2nd Vampire Academy book is as good as the 1st one, and definetly belongs to the WOW list. Rose and Lissa finally settle back to life in school, but not for long. The book is action packed and there isn't a dull moment. It's one of those books that when you finish it you are sorry that you don't have the next book waiting ... . Loved how young Moroi are starting to realize that in order to survive they must start using magic as weapon and fight alongside their guardiens.

Pretty little liars - Sara Shepard

Alison, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer were best friends, until Alison disappeared. Three years later, the remaining girls, now juniors at Rosewood Day, are leading separate, but charmed lives. After living in Iceland, Aria returns home sophisticated and worldly. Emily is a champion swimmer, Hanna is the most popular girl in school, and Spencer's accomplishments make the average type-A valedictorian look like a slacker. But in Rosewood, appearances are deceiving, and when the girls start receiving mysterious texts signed by someone named A, the past threatens to ruin their perfect present. A claims to know all of their secrets—but who is A? How much does A really know? And what can four pretty little liars do to protect themselves from the truth?

I love the TV serie and still haven't figured out who A is and how she/he manage to spy on the girls. When I got the book, I hoped that it will solve the mystery. Unfortunatly it's only the 1st book in the series and only cover the story of the first 2-3 episodes. Although I already know the story, the book added some nice backgorund about the characters and the happenings.

The league of extraordinary gentlemen vol.1

It's 1898 and at the behest of M, the mysterious head of the secret Service, Campion Bond is dispatched to procure the services of Miss Mina Murray (nee Harker), adventurer Allan Quartermain, "Science-Pirate" Captain Nemo, Henry Jekyll (and his monstrous alter ego) and Hawley Griffin (a.k.a. the Invisible Man). Together, they must combat an insidious threat that will decide supremacy of the London skies, but their success may unleash a far greater threat.

Very good reading. Till the almost the end I did't guess that M is actually Moriarty. In a way this books is a sequell to Dracula as far as Mina Harker is concerned. I just love reading stories happening in victorian London. The art isn't bad either. As usual I wish that DC will use better quality paper. Looking forward to reading vol.2 which I already own :)

Doctor Who: Peacemaker

The peace and quiet of a remote homestead in the 1880s American West is shattered by the arrival of two shadowy outriders searching for 'the healer'. When the farmer refuses to help them, they raze the house to the ground using guns that shoot bolts of energy instead of bullets. Meanwhile, in the town of Redwater, the Doctor and Martha learn of a snake-oil salesman who's patent medicines actually cure his patient. But when the Doctor and Martha investigate they discover the truth is stranger, and far more dangerous. Caught between the law of the gun and the deadly plans of intergalactic mercenaries, the Doctor and Martha are about to discover just how wild the West can become...

The message behind the book is that creating the ultimate weapon is a very bad idea. Yes, in the short term it will win the war for it's creators. But sooner or later it will turn on it's creators, esp. if it has an A.I..

They told him his uncle died in a car accident. Fourteen-year-old Alex knows that's a lie, and the bullet holes in his uncle's windshield confirm his suspicions. But nothing prepares him for the news that the uncle he always thought he knew was really a spy for MI6 - Britain's top secret intelligence agency. Recruited to find his uncle's killers and complete his final mission, Alex suddenly finds himself caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse.

After the disappointment from the Young Bond books I wasn't sure if I'll like this book. The idea is similar to the Young Bond books: the Britich secret service has to enlist a teenager to save the day. But unlike young James Bond who is protrayed as a rediculous superhero who never make a mistake, Alex Rider knows his limitations and makes lots of mistakes. The book is enjoyable although it's not in the same class as Riordan or Rowling books. Looking forward to reading the next book in the serie.

Grave secrets - Kartyh Reichs

A harrowing excavation unearths a chilling tragedy never laid to rest. They are “the disappeared,” twenty-three massacre victims buried in a well in the Guatemalan village of Chupan Ya two decades ago. Leading a team of experts on a meticulous, heartbreaking dig, Tempe Brennan pieces together the violence of the past. But a fresh wave of terror begins when the horrific sounds of a fatal attack on two colleagues come in on a blood-chilling satellite call. Teaming up with Special Crimes Investigator Bartolomé Galiano and Montreal detective Andrew Ryan, Tempe quickly becomes enmeshed in the cases of four privileged young women who have vanished from Guatemala City — and finds herself caught in deadly territory where power, money, greed, and science converge.

Great book. Till the end I didn't suspect who the murderer is. Till the end I was sure that it was the Canadian ambasador. The only annoying thing is the use of 3 langauges (English, Frenck & Spanish), 2 of which I don't know. Can't understand why Reichs insist on using more then one language in her books.

New books

  1. Doctor Who: Dead of winter

  2. Doctor Who: The way through the woods

Body trace - D.H. Dublin

When the bodies of two women are discovered at a University of Pennsylvania sorority house, C.S.U. rookie Madison Cross, determined to make her mark, does not believe the ruling that these deaths were accidental and uses her instincts to find the truth.

In a way this book is about Kathy Reichs's Dr. Brenan at the beginning of her career. Nice book. The autor wrote 2 more books like this. If I'm lucky they'll appear in my used books shop :)

New books

Found several of Anthony Horowitz young adults books in the used books shop and decided to give them a try in the hope that they'll be as good as Rick Riordan's books and not a disapointment as the "young Bond" books:

  1. Stormbreaker

  2. Point blank

  3. Scorpia

  4. Ark angel

  5. Evil star

Stargate Atlantis: Homecoming

The first of a six book series set after the end of Stargate Atlantis's final season, Homecoming sees Atlantis return to the Pegasus Galaxy. But the situation in Pegasus has changed. The Wraith are on the verge of unification under the new and powerful Queen Death. She stages a daring raid with one goal: the capture of the only man able to give their ships hyperdrive and lead them to Earth — Dr. Rodney McKay.

Finally a good Stargate book after the last several disappointing ones. It took me a week to read it which is great. Although the name hints at a story about Atlantis on Earth after the war with the Wraith, it's not. The book is the 1st part of a saga in which Atlantis has to keep the Wraith from again attacking Earth.

Blood ties: Blood lines

Sealed away through unending centuries in a sarcophagus never meant to be opened, he had patiently waited for the opportunity to live again, for the chance to feed on the unwary and grow strong. Now, at last, the waiting had come to an end. Brought to the Egyptology Department of Toronto's Royal Ontario Museum, the seals and spells that imprisoned him shipped away by his discoverers, he reached forth to claim the minds and souls of the unsuspecting city dwellers, to begin building an empire for himself and his god. And only three people had even the hint that anything was wrong. For Henry Fitzroy, 450-year-old vampire, it began with a haunting, inescapable image of the sun, a terrifying symbol of death to one such as he. Fearing for his sanity, he called upon his sometime-lover and comrade in supernatural investigations, ex-cop Vicki Nelson, for help. And even as the two struggled to cope with Henry's obsession, Vicki's closest friend and former partner, Police Detective Mike Celluci was following up on two mysterious deaths at the museum, certain he was looking at murders, not accidents -- and equally convinced that the killer was a mummy brought back from the dead!

A book worthy of the WOW list. I started reading it on a monday thinking that I'll finish reading before I left to the Netherlands on Thursday. Boy I was worng. It took me a week to read, a fact that I'm very happy about. What I'm not happy about is the fact that Huff decided not to write more Blood and/or Shadow books. The world of Henry, Vicky, Mike & Tony is wonderful and very rich. It's a shame that it had to end.

The book shows how weak human kind is, and how easily humans can be manipulated and tempted by external force like mind control. Even Henry the vampire found it hard not to be tempted by the Egyptian magician because of the shred of humanity still in him.
