Ender's shadow by Orson Scott Card

I've decided to read one of the Ender books before buying the comics adaptations to see if it's wrorth spending money on the comics. My reaction to the book is ambivalent. The action and story are interesting and compelling. BUT there is too many pages about what Beans (Ender's shadow) thinks and feels. In the 4th chapter it starts to be repetitous and annoying. Beans is smarter then everyone else including the adults and is too much aware of how small he is and how others react to that. We get it !!! No need to repeat it over and over !!!.
In the future I'm going to stick with the comics version in which I'm sure that there is more acction and less blah blah. The books is going to the "to be sold" pile.

Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs

Another good book about the book version of Bones aka Dr. Brenan. Last time I wrote about how different the book chracter is from the TV one. This time what bothered me most was the too extensive use of French. My knowledge of the French language is limited and not all the French sentences were transalated to English. I understand that the book takes place in Quebec, but it's an English language book so please less French.
Other then that the book was very entertaining and I didn't figure out who the killer was till the end. Till then poor Bones had to deal with shovenist detectives who refused to see that there is a serial killer on the loose.

Doctor Who v2 #1

The 1st issue of the new 11th Doctor comics is very promising. It looks like a stand alone story. Rory & Amy check their e-mails on the Tardis's magic phone. All their spam and rejected mail is manifested as annoying holograms. The Tardis is diverted to a hologram planet that is about to be destroyed by space pirates. The merry and bickering trio is saved from slavery by a holographic Doctor LOL. But I still miss my beloved 10th Doctor who was all fire and determination and confronting things head long. The 11th Doctor is more about cunning and sweet talk.
The art is great. Esp. the Doctor & Amy's likenesses.

The dresden files: Small favour

It's the 10th book in the Dresden files series and it's still fantastic read. In each book Harry Dresden gets himself and the rest of the world out of trouble by making desisions that gets him in trouble in the next book. In this book Harry has to do Queen Mab's biddibg cos he owe her 2 favors for favors she did for him in previous books, and save gangster Marcone from the Fallen Angels. The same Marcone whom he formaly intorduced to the supernatural world in exchange for Marcone's help in the book #9. At least the book ends with Harry finally getting the girl - Captain Luccio :)
Another book for the WOW list !!! Can't wait to get the next books.
A suggestion for writer Jim Butcher: With the rise of the Black Council of Wizards maybe the White Council should stop behaeading teenage wizards who turn into warlocks because they weren't trained, and train them as combat wizards to help in the war against the Black Council ???

G.I. Joe new from IDW

Cobra Commander is dead. April sees two one-shots — the 40-page G.I. Joe: Cobra Civil War #0 and the 1The three interconnected G.I. Joe series then all relaunch with new #1s in May, with G.I. Joe #1 by Chuck Dixon and Javier Saltares, Snake Eyes #1 (effectively taking the place of G.I. Joe: Origins) by Dixon and Robert Atkins, and a new Cobra #1 from Mike Costa and Antonio Fuso. 100-page G.I. Joe: Cobra Commander Tribute 100-Page Spectacular.

So far I'm reading G.I. Joe in TPB format because I was to the game. But with the new series I'm going to revert back to my favorite way of comics reading - issues instead of TPBs.

Anita Blake: The laughing corpse vol.1 - Animator

The 1st part of the Laughing Corpse is very interesting. If you take the supernatural out of the story, you are left with a very good murder mystery with lots of action. A family (parents & 3 years old boy (were brutally murdered by what Anita suspects is a killer zombie. She have find both the zombie and the person who raised it from the dead. On the way Anita have to deal with a crazy billionare who wants to force her to raise a very old corpse for him, Jean Claude - the master vampire of the city who wants her as a human slave and a nasty voodoo priestess. The book ends with Anita agreeing to meet Jean Claude for a talk in the Laughing Corpse bar and being attacked by supernatural thugs sent by the voodoo woman.

To be continued ....

All in all, Anita's life are not different then those of wizard Harry Dresden whose adventuires I'm reading now in Jim Butcher's Small Favor.

The chase by Clive Cussler

This book is totally different from all the other Cussler books. Usually a Cussler book start with an historic event and moves to the near future where the heros (Dirk Pitt, Kurt Austin, the Fargos or the Oregon crew) find relics from that event and on the way save the world from yet another meglomaniac trying to re-shape it.

This books start is the 1950s when a locomotive and boxcar are found in a lake. Then it moves to 1906 and the story of detective Isaac Bell from the Van Dorn detective agency chasing after the bank robber known as the Butcher Bundit. A very interesting read. Looking forward to other Isaac Bell books.

The Vampire academy by Rachelle Mead

This is the 1st book in this serie and it's another book in the WOW list. If you strip away the vampire cover it's another series about life in a boarding school, like Harry Potter or the old Jennings children books. Placing it in a vampires world add flavor and suspence.
The main charcters are Lissa tthe vampire and her friend/guardian Rose. From the minute Prince Victor's health problems were mentioned I was sure that he'll try to force Lissa to heal him. What I didn't suspect was that his boring & nice daughter Natalie is the one haunting Lissa with dead animals.
Looking forward to getting my hands on book 2 :)
